FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS PART 2
Our Game Masters field a LOT of questions. So many, in fact, that we have enough to write an FAQ Part 2. Don’t get us wrong, we encourage you to ask anything that might come to mind, and we love answering your questions! So don’t be afraid to ask your game master any questions. There is no such thing as a dumb question at Quest Reality Games, and there are very few questions that haven’t already been asked at some point in time. Don’t think you’re alone in your queries (but kudos to you if you’re the first to ask us something). That being said, here are a few of the most common questions asked by players, which you may be asking too!
What is an escape room?
Escape rooms are physical adventure games, which originated from online click and point games. Although different escape companies vary drastically in how they operate, the basics are that you will be locked in a room for a given amount of time (a full hour at Quest Reality Games!), and in that time you must solve puzzles in order to escape the room. Rooms come in a variety of themes, and the puzzles vary along with the theme of the room. First generation escape rooms normally consist of physical locks and keys, whereas our second generation escape games incorporate technology to make puzzles more interactive and immersive.

How do we escape?
In order to escape, you’ll have find exciting clues to solve a series of challenging puzzles. Our second generation escape games test your problem-solving abilities in many ways, including your memory, powers of observation, logic, deductive reasoning, and code-breaking abilities. By doing so our puzzles appeal to all types of problem-solver and ensures that everyone in your group will be able to help the team solve puzzles.
What if we can’t solve a puzzle?
If you are stuck on one puzzle in the theme you’re playing, make sure that everyone in your group has the opportunity to try their hand at it. Everyone is different in the way they approach puzzles. We are all products of our past experience, so some puzzles may appeal more to certain members of your team than others. (Want to know how to create the perfect team? Check out our blog 5 Types of People Needed To Create the Perfect Team). So, if you’re stuck, let one of your teammates give it a try and they may have more success.
If your entire group can’t move forward, don’t hesitate to ask your Game Master for a hint! Game masters are more than happy to help you work your way through the room. Even if you are out of hints, there is no harm in asking your Game Master for a hand. You may just need some clarification on the puzzle, or need the Game Master to paraphrase their last hint. Rest assured we will never leave you hanging—after all it’s only a game, and we’re here to make sure you have fun!
Did we escape?
If you solved all of the puzzles in the room, and opened the final door out of the room, chances are, you escaped. Occasionally, a puzzle may malfunction, or you may accidentally hit the emergency exit button and cause the exit door to open. In these rare instances your Game Master will help make it right so you can experience the thrill of a successful escape. In most scenarios, if you were able to open the last door and leave the room, it’s time for you to celebrate!
What is augmented reality?
Augmented reality places images or words over the user’s view of the real world in order to create an altered reality. This allows for creatures that you would never ordinarily see, such as unicorns and goblins come to life in your real-world surroundings! At Quest Reality Games, we utilize augmented reality in our three Cluetivity outdoor adventure games, to allow a magical experience come to life right here in downtown Victoria.
What if we are unable to escape?
Once your hour is up, if your team was unable to escape one of our themes, your Game Master is happy to help you finish your Quest! Our Game Masters want to help you enjoy your experience, so they will either give you an extra hand while you work through the remaining puzzles in the room, or you may choose to leave the room a mystery. The choice is yours, depending on the preference of your group.
Is it scary? Are there any live actors?
When this question is asked, the first thing most game masters will tell you is that fear is subjective. What scares one player will not scare every player! Some people are afraid of spiders, some of heights. One thing is for certain, though: that’s probably the most common question we hear. While we here at Quest Reality Games do not intend to scare anyone with our rooms, they may be a little spooky. If you have any specific fears, such as snakes or loud noises, which truly scare you, don’t hesitate to ask your Game Master if they will appear in the room. As for whether or not there are live actors in any of our themes, there are not. And although you didn’t ask, allow us to clarify that there are no dead actors either!
Can I go into another room and scare the people there?
No. No, you cannot. We understand why that might seem appealing, and why there’s such a strong temptation, but please leave the other players to enjoy their respective games.
Is there an age requirement? Can children play?
All of our games are designed with all ages in mind, so children of all ages are welcome. We do, however, require an adult player to supervise any children under the age of 14. How successful any players are is dependent upon their individual experience and development, and the composition of the players in the group. Although our themes are not intended to be scary for any ages, we strongly encourage parents to read our theme descriptions to determine whether they will be suitable for your child.
As you can see, we get asked all sorts of questions. You’re not alone in your thinking, so don’t worry about asking a question you think might be too stupid.
