Everything you need to know before booking an escape game at Quest Reality Games
In past blogs we’ve answered a lot of frequently-asked questions, and provided a lot of escape room tips. This week we’re covering the very basics of what you need to know before booking your experience at Quest Reality Games. Read on to learn more!
Rules
Every escape game facility operates slightly different, and you can’t win at their game unless you know the rules! Your Game Master will go through all the rules before your game beings so that you are familiar with what you can and cannot do in a given room. Listen to them. We get it, you’re excited and anxious to get started. But the rules are not something to ‘get over with’ so you can hurry up and play the game—they are essential to your enjoyment, and the enjoyment of anyone planning to play the game after you. For instance, if they say not to take anything off the walls, don’t take anything off the walls! You don’t want to lose time if someone has to come into the room to tell you not to do something, or have your experience (or that of future players) ruined because you broke something you weren’t supposed to touch. Plus, you’ll be wasting time doing things that won’t help you escape. Once you’ve been given the rules, be sure to ask any unanswered questions that the rules haven’t covered.
Pay Attention To The Introduction
All escape games have a theme, and most have some sort of storyline to help you become immersed in the world and to give you a goal you must achieve in order to escape. When you’re excited about your experience, it can be easy to get distracted either by others in your group who are joking and horsing-around, or by looking for clues to escape. Even experienced players (sometimes especially experienced players) can be so eager to start solving clues that they forget that the introduction can contain information that’s critical to their success. At the very least, the intro will tell you about your ultimate goal, which will help you immerse yourself in the story, and get in the right mindset for escaping. Whether your goal is to elude the mad scientist or solve a mysterious occurrence, the intro will outline the major tasks you need to complete in order to put all the pieces together and escape the room–so pay attention!

Suitable Ages
All of our games are designed with all ages in mind, so children of all ages are welcome. And we’ve certainly had players of all ages enjoy our games. We do, however, require an adult player to supervise any children under the age of 14. How successful any players are is dependent upon their individual experience and development, and the composition of the players in the group. Although our themes are not intended to be scary for any ages, we strongly encourage parents to read our theme descriptions to determine whether they will be suitable for your child.
What Types Of Puzzles To Expect
Our premium themes offer a game play like no other. We test your problem-solving abilities in many ways by challenging your memory, powers of observation, logic, deductive reasoning, and code-breaking abilities. You and your teammates will need to use all of your mental faculties: Our games are not just about piecing together four digits codes, they’re about asking yourself ‘where have I seen this before?’ ‘Is something here out of the ordinary?’ ‘Is one of these things not like the others?’
One Game, Three Different Difficulty Levels
That brings us to a truly unique aspect of our escape games—we offer THREE different types of experiences.
Escape rooms are a learned skill, and they can be challenging for newbies. For those who are trying escape games for the first time, you can ask your Game Master for an easy experience. And for the seasoned enthusiasts who want to increase the challenge, you can ask for a difficult experience. Change your mind mid-game? No problem. Just let your Game Master know, and you can change the difficultly level of your experience at any time.
While this doesn’t change any of the puzzles or physical aspects of the game, it does change how our Game Masters interact with you. Looking for an easier experience? Just ask your Game Master and they’ll give you some extra detail and guidance in those hints. Want to maximize the challenge of our games? Our Game Masters can dial back the dialogue and give you more freedom to work it out on your own.
Red Herrings
In terms of escape rooms, a red herring is defined as a puzzle or element within a game intended to distract or throw players off.
We do not have any red herring puzzles in our themes that are intended to throw you off. And all of the props in our themes have a purpose—even if that purpose is to distract you. Stay focussed and use common sense; if you find dozens of books in a room, it’s unlikely that you’re expected to painstaking review the contents of each of them. Likewise, if you find several props on a common theme or subject, chances are they’re trying to tell you something.
If you’re ever unsure, just ask! Our Game Masters are here to ensure your experience is an enjoyable one!
No Locks
At Quest Reality Games, we offer a unique escape game experience. If padlocks and keys are what you’re used to, you won’t find many here! We have designed the next generation of escape games by integrating technology into our themes and creating an experience where the game responds to your actions. We have doors that open automatically, we have puzzles that react to you in real time—we want every element of the game to feel fully integrated into the setting and the story. We have achieved this in our themes by eliminating lockboxes and introducing new and innovative ways for you to interact with your game.
