8 Questions To Ask When Planning Your Date Night:
Valentine’s Day is nearly here, and with it our thoughts turn to things to do for a date night. Whether you’re looking for something fun and unique to do with your significant other that’s a change from the usual dinner-and-a-movie, or you finally got the nerve to ask that person you’ve had a crush on forever out on a date and you want to impress them with your out-of-the box thinking, consider planning an escape room outing for you and you special someone!
Escape rooms can make for a great night out, and are a great way to bond with your partner. Whether you are just starting to see each other (maybe it’s even your first date), or have been together for years, visit Quest Reality Games for a unique date night—you might even find out new things about each other!
When you’re ready to plan your date, here is some advice we give to couples looking to take their night on the town to the next level.
What Room Should We Pick?
Escape rooms can come in all shapes and sizes, especially when it comes to the theme. First, make sure you pick a room that can be played with only two people (unless it’s a double date night!) as many rooms require a larger group to play. Once you find some rooms that are cozy enough for the two of you, look for a theme that suits you both.
Picking a theme that you are both interested in will help make it an enjoyable, engaging experience for you both! At Quest Reality Games, we have two themes that can accommodate the two of you; Secrets of the Great Pyramid and Rosewood Manor. Make sure that the two of you agree on the theme, particularly if one of you has played the theme before!
When Should We Eat?
On one hand, many groups like to plan for dinner after their game so they can chat about their experience. This is a great way to extend the enjoyment of the experience. On the other hand, escape rooms take a lot of focus and concentration. We’ve certainly seen our fair share of guests who get discouraged or distracted during their gameplay due to rumbling stomachs! Plus, escape games typically require little physical excursion, making them a great thing to do while your dinner digests!
Whether your preference is to eat your meal before or after your game play, we recommend feeding your brain at least a small snack beforehand so it has all the nutrients it needs to do some serious puzzle-solving!
Do We Need A Leader?
While it’s true that relationships are about two equals coming together, it can be helpful to pick one of you two to be a leader to help keep you both focused. This is even more helpful for a double-date escape room night, as too many voices or opinions without a focus can keep you from succeeding in your escape. It’s far easier to navigate an escape room if you have a designated leader to communicate with your game master and relay the information to the rest of the team.
How Important Is Communication?
In any relationship communication is key—and this is also important in escape rooms!
Just like in relationships, good communication can be the difference between success and failure. Make sure that you are letting each other know when you’ve found new clues, solved a puzzle, or think you have the password for something. This is a great chance to develop these important communicative skills that you’ll be able to use for the rest of your relationship—once you escape, that is!
How Important Is Teamwork?
In a word: crucial. Escape rooms are designed to promote teamwork. Even the most seasoned escape artists must work together if they want to successfully escape. The key to success is undoubtedly working well with your partner at every step.
Our tip for a successful date night: Be sure to share the love and let your partner be involved. It’s alright to take the lead and help guide the game play, but make sure you’re letting your date solve puzzles and be involved as well. After all, you’re working as a team—not competing against each other!
Do You Offer Any Deals?
We sure do! At Quest Reality Games, the first Thursday of every month is Women’s night, and the last Thursday of every month is Men’s night. Should We Book In Advance?
While spontaneous romantic dates can be fun—and we always welcome walk-ins, we recommend booking your gameplay in advance. This will help to avoid disappointment if the room you want to play, or the time you planned to play at, is already taken. Booking ahead will eliminate some uncertainty and guarantee at least one part of your date night is sure to go as planned!
Have Fun
Ok, this isn’t a question—but it’s important enough that it’s worth saying anyway! It may seem obvious, but it’s something that can be overlooked when we focus on the outcome rather than the experience. Remember, while the goal for any escape room is to successfully escape, having fun comes first! Escaping isn’t everything, so try not to feel pressured when inside the room. Instead, be in the moment and think about all the fun you’re having with that someone special. As long as you’re engaged in the experience, everyone wins. Going home to the dog house is never fun! Armed with these tips, you’re ready to go on the best date of your life! Grab your significant other, or finally ask your crush out, and plan your escape room visit now.
